If you have your own auto insurance with good coverages, then don't get the rental insurance. Your own auto insurance covers you in a rental car, and you will always pay a deductible if you get into an accident whether or not it's your fault (unless you have purchased a waiver of some kind for your policy.) If you only purchased the minimum coverages then if you got into an accident that was anything more than a fender-bender, chances are your normal insurance company would end up getting involved anyway, and you would still pay your deductible. Long story short- don't get the extra insurance. It can nearly double the cost of your vehicle rental and it's not reimbursable by your normal insurance company anyway as it is optional. Also, check the terms and features of the credit card you used to pay for the rental. Most---if not all---credit cards include some level of rental insurance. Some cards provide better protection than others, so be sure to read your specific terms carefully.
